Meet the Artist: Meah James

We recently had the chance to work with a talented young artist Meah James on the distribution and artwork for her first single, Cheap Talking, and we loved getting a front-row seat to this next chapter of her music.

Since so much of what we do at Merida Creative is about helping artists tell their story visually and creatively, we wanted to introduce you to Meah beyond the artwork and let you get to know the artist behind the song.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got to the point of releasing your first single.

My name is Meah. I come from a small town in Tennessee and I have always had a passion for music. All my life I loved writing - in and out of the classroom - especially poems. After graduating high school I got the opportunity to write with our family friend and singer-songwriter Cindy Morgan and took it. That's where “Cheap Talking” was born.

What inspired “Cheap Talking,” and where did the idea for the song begin?

All my life I’ve heard my use the phrase "They ain't worth a dime" and it stuck with me. I had some verses already written that kind of tied into that idea before sitting down to write with Cindy.

Is there a lyric or moment in the song that feels especially personal or important to you?

My favorite part of the song is "It's like you ain't had no teaching, wish you practiced what you're preaching." I just feel like that is something everyone has experienced with another person, whether that be a significant other, friend, or just a person running their mouth.

Who are some of your biggest creative inspirations?

My biggest inspirations are Marcus King, Ty Myers, and Kacey Musgraves.

What do you hope people take away from this song?

I just hope people enjoy listening to it. I've always talked to my dad about how a song can mean something different to every single person. As long as they like listening to it, I'm happy.
